Plastic pollution is a growing global crisis, with significant environmental and health impacts. Effective upstream measures and binding rules are essential for mitigating this issue.Â
The Webinar on Upstream Measures and Binding Rules will be the second event in the series. This webinar aims to discuss the necessity for the legally binding instrument to effectively address plastic pollution by recognising and regulating upstream measures. The webinar also addresses the need for legally binding measures to combat plastic pollution, focusing on the importance of upstream regulations and the role of binding rules for enforcement and compliance.
The webinar will invite experts and stakeholders primarily from the business and industry community, with value-adding participation of the panel speakers from the environmental law community. It will focus on gathering insights and stocktake recommendations that will be advanced to the negotiation process by youth and other stakeholders and will inform the substantive positions of youth towards the fifth session of INC.
Format and proposed draft agenda for the Webinar
The webinar series will consist of multiple virtual sessions, each focusing on a specific aspect of plastic pollution, including
i) Understanding Upstream Measures till INC-4,Â
ii) Importance of recognising and regulating upstream measures, and
iii) Binding rules as a part of the ILBI. Each session will feature expert speakers from various sectors, including scientists and researchers, civil society organizations, youth, policymakers and industry leaders, who will share their insights, experiences, and innovative solutions. The Webinar on Upstream Measures and Binding Rules will be the second event in the series.
