Given the increase in environmental challenges such as air pollution, marine degradation, and the need for a just and green transition, addressing these through the lens of the 2030 Agenda is now more vital than ever. This session was built to amplify youth-led contributions, encourage cross-sectoral collaboration, and create actionable pathways to accelerate progress on the environmental dimensions of the 2030 Agenda. This diverse panel session will specifically explore the SDGs in focus in APFSD 2025, such as Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), Decent Work, and Economic Growth (SDG 8), and Life Below Water (SDG 14). This discussion will also emphasize the importance of integrating and empowering young people at the forefront of sustainable solutions. It will highlight how youth in the region, through their innovative initiatives aligned with SDG 3, SDG 8, and SDG 14 are actively addressing environmental challenges tied to sustainable development. Furthermore, the discussion will foster dialogue on policy coherence and integrated approaches to advance the environmental dimensions of sustainable development, while also contributing valuable insights to the broader APFSD 2025 discussions.
Key Questions and Expected Outcomes
The side event aims to identify strategic pathways to propel meaningful youth engagement and intensify advocacy consolidation through the lens of youth, contributing to the progressive achievements of environmental dimensions in Agenda 2030 across the Asia Pacific region as a catalyst. This side event will provide recommendations and evaluations of the situation of air pollution and its progress under SDG 3.9.1, the progress of tackling marine pollution and sustainable use of marine resources under SDG 14.1 and 14.7, also how the green transition led young people to work in green jobs under SDG targets 8.4 and 8.6. The key guiding questions are as follows:

-
How is the progress of SDG Target 3.9.1 on the youth population in the Asia-Pacific region?
-
Why is the green transition dependent on creating green jobs, and why must youth be actively involved in these roles to ensure sustainable progress, especially in SDG 8?
-
What are the bottlenecks in achieving SDG 14 and what transformative and acceleration efforts are needed to overcome them? In particular, how can young people play an active role in driving these changes?
